Monday, 23 November 2009 18:10

An Oxfordshire brewery hosted an evening of beer and game on 17 November to mark National Taste of Game Week (14-21 November).

The event, which was organised by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) and hosted by Hook Norton Brewery, saw fifty diners enjoy a range of dishes including Partridge vol-au-vents, loin of venison with Yorkshire pudding, game sausages and a mixed game terrine.

Guests also enjoyed brewery tours, an antique gun display and a game butchery demonstration from Sainsbury’s Julien Pursglove who told guests that the game meat market within Sainsbury’s has been continually increasing by 30% year on year. Guests also heard from BASC’s Jenni Thompson and Brewery managing director James Clarke on the merits of game meat and sourcing food locally. The event was supported by William Powell gun room of Banbury & West Oxfordshire Shooting School.

BASC’s Jenni Thompson said: “Our ultimate aim during National Taste of Game Week is to raise the profile of the game meat market, inspire people to try game and to educate them on its versatility in the kitchen. The event at Hook Norton certainly met these objectives whilst also helping to raise the profile of locally sourced food.”
